這隻殼是南部漁船在接近東沙海域400米撈捕,殼長40.8mm.
新種命名,學名是Metula thachi Koen Fraussen & SI Huang, 2011
由於其他types都來自越南芽莊,所以學名字冠上外國字樣,至於中文名就由第二作者以模式產地定名為南海長峨螺.
以下是原始文章對這隻殼的敘述:
Description: Shell of medium size for the genus (up to 55mm in length). Shape slender, lens-shaped with high spire, stretched base, rather biconic. Whorls gently convex, slightly shouldered. Sculpture granulate, few axial varices present. Colour pale brown, upper spire whorls often paler or white. Axial varices slightly darker before, paler or white after varix. Aperture, outer lip and columella white.
Protoconch slender, 1.9 mm in length, diameter, 1.5 mm in diameter, consisting of about 1 3/4 convex whorls, slightly eroded. Transition to teleoconch marked by fine incremental lines.
First teleoconch whorl ornamented with 6 fine spiral cords; interspaces of equal size or slightly narrower. Second whorl starting with 9 primary spiral cords, third whorl with 12 cords. Penultimate whorl starting with 12 narrow, slightly flattened spiral cords; subsutural one fine. Interspaces of equal size on adapical part of whorl, narrower on abapical half of whorl, fine near lower suture. Some spiral cords on the shoulder may have a bilirate appearance. Body whorl with 28 narrow, slightly flattened spiral cords, becoming broad and flattened on base; in addition more than 15 fine or obscure spiral cords on siphonal canal. Secondary spiral cord absent on all whorls (in holotype) or a single fine secondary spiral present in one of the interspaces (paratype 1).
First teleoconch whorl with about 40 fine axial ribs with an opisthocline oriantation. Where the sculpture on the two first teleoconch whorls is dominant axial or rather reticulate, along the second teleoconch whorl the spiral sculpture increases in strenght and the sculpture on the third whorl is dominated by spiral cords or rather by the knobs situated which are situated where spiral and axial sculpture cross each other. Number of axial ribs slightly increasing, their shape shifting from opisthocline to opisthocyrt, third whorl with 43 axial, fourth whorl with 47 axials, penultimate whorl with 47 axials of which on broad varix, also body whorl with 47 axials of which 4 on the labral varix. A varix present on transition from penultimate whorl to body whorl.
Aperture narrow, semi-ovate, both ends pinched. Outer lip with 23 fine but sharp internal lirae, corresponding with spiral interspaces of outer sculpture . Columella gently curving, callus thick, smooth, slightly projecting where covering base of preceeding whorl. Lip thick, edge rather sharp; adapical part opisthocline, at midwhorl and abapical part prosocline , resulting in an inversed s-shaped lip when seen lateraly; abapical part of lip sligthly thinner when compared to adapical part. Siphonal canal open, broad, of medium size, typical of the genus. Aperture and siphonal canal together lesser than 2/3 of total shell length.
Animal and operculum unknown.
